SAND RECTOR

                                              WELCOME

I am also known as Sandra Rector.

My short stories have been published in several literary journals including Dublin Quarterly Review, The Southern Cross Review, Pedestal Magazine and Black Petals.
See http://www.dublinquarterly.com/11/f_srector.html for one of my favorites.
A story I wrote with PMF Johnson, "A Dwelling in the Evening Air," and published in Amazing Stories, was nominated for a Theodore Sturgeon Award.  Together, we also sold numerous short stories to such anthologies as Xanadu II, Whatdunnits, and Witch Fantastic. I am currently an associate editor for Tales of the Unanticipated, a literary magazine.

I have a b.a. in journalism from the University of Minnesota and have sold articles, editorials, essays, book reviews to such places as The Washington Post, Cooking Light, East/West and many others.  I have also written columns on chefs, authors, painters and business movers and shakers for The Santa Fe New Mexican.  I have also written book covers for G. K. Hall, a large print publishing house, the most memorable being Diana in Private by Lady Colin Campbell.  My poems have been published in Modern Haiku, Pink Poetry Motel and others.  My poem, "Buying a House" is being used in the Family Housing Fund's 2009 calendar which advocates for affordable housing for the poor.

I also worked for seven years as a professional food taster for General Mills where I discovered that Lindt candy is the best with its perfect blend of chocolate, butter, cream, sugar and real vanilla with its fine, woody, rummy taste. Lindt also has a lovely mouth feel.  I also discovered that Coke and Hellman's Mayonnaise are considered perfect products.  What I disliked most about food tasting were the chemicals that pretend to be something else like grape or strawberry.  What I loved best was being part of a team who actually knew whether the vanilla from Madagascar was as good as the vanilla from some other place or horrors, a one note cheap substitute like vanillan.  I quit to concentrate on writing a novel, Lyoness.
